Trigeminal neuralgia-face pain

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Russell, a 70 something year old man ,told me about pain on the right side of his face for two weeks. He had never experienced this situation before.  With one acupuncture treatment, his pain was improved by 90%.  Most cases are not this easy, but its really fun when we get results this quickly.

“For the first time in 15 years, the patient felt no pain.”

Cheryl, a patient of mine, asked me one day how I became interested in acupuncture. The short answer is, I saw it work.

Years ago, while I was a poor medical student, I took a summer job with a veterinarian.  He had a small animal practice, but also treated racehorses with acupuncture.  The results caught my attention.

I was really sold when the vet blocked the mouth and facial nerves of another vet tech, who needed a tooth pulled.  The tech had an extraction without anesthesia.
I realized there was an alternative to Western medicine, which treats illness after the fact.  Eastern medicine restores the body’s  balance and self-healing capability.

So I took 1,200 hours of acupuncture training to get certified and passed the acupuncture exam by Dr. Amauro.

Acupuncture has been successful for many patients, including one who suffered from TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) and tinnitus.  Western treatment and prescription medication were not successful.

Through a treatment of 9 sessions, I needled the patient’s trigeminal nerve for 25 minutes.  For the first time in 15 years, the patient felt no pain.
