Good Nutrition: a prequisite for fertility

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Bad eating choices can negatively affect a woman’s ability to concieve and carry a fetus full term. Eating lots of BAD carbs, white flour products such as bread, cracker, potato chips, and processed snacks increases blood sugar and insulin levels, reducing chances of conception. Eating good carbs-whole wheat breads, brown rice, beans, and fresh veggies, and whole fruit(not fruit juice)-provides energy and nutrients for mother and baby.

Don’t forget protien, which is crucially important for DNA replication and cell renewal. Incluse lean meat and fish in your diet.

Alternative medicine: the Eastern approach to infertility

Although modern medicine packs some pretty potent remedies – fertility drugs and in-vitro fertilization – thousands of women still cannot concieve.

Seeking other options, many are turning to the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture for treatment.

Acupuncture stimulates the body’s energy paths and balances organ systems to work in concert.

This synergy creates a harmony of physical, spiritual and emotional health and well-being, optimal conditions for egg production and successful conception.

No drugs, no procedures – just mother nature.

Hair Mineral Testing

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Today I’m going to give you a multiple choice quiz. Ready?

What’s the best way to assess your nutritional condition and design a nutritional plan?

A. Symptom Survey

B. Blood Test

C. Hair mineral testing

D. Diet sheets

If you picked “C”, you’re right! If you didn’t let me tell you about hair mineral testing.

Nutritional physiology takes place in your cells. For an accurate assessment of your nutritional status, the mineral levels of cellular tissue must be tested. A quick, painless way to measure those levels is to analyze a hair sample.

A hair sample is clipped from an inconspicuous spot on the head and sent to a lab for hair mineral testing, which reveals trace mineral imbalances.

The hair analysis serves as a diagnostic tool as well as a preventive guide. For example, high copper tissue levels are linked to premenstrual headaches.

Lowering copper levels through an individualized nutritional plan should lessen the symptoms.

So who would undergo hair mineral testing? People who are ill, but no cause can be found, or people who have been diagnosed with a condition, but treatment is not successful.

Trigeminal neuralgia-face pain

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Russell, a 70 something year old man ,told me about pain on the right side of his face for two weeks. He had never experienced this situation before.  With one acupuncture treatment, his pain was improved by 90%.  Most cases are not this easy, but its really fun when we get results this quickly.

“For the first time in 15 years, the patient felt no pain.”

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Cheryl, a patient of mine, asked me one day how I became interested in acupuncture. The short answer is, I saw it work.

Years ago, while I was a poor medical student, I took a summer job with a veterinarian.  He had a small animal practice, but also treated racehorses with acupuncture.  The results caught my attention.

I was really sold when the vet blocked the mouth and facial nerves of another vet tech, who needed a tooth pulled.  The tech had an extraction without anesthesia.
I realized there was an alternative to Western medicine, which treats illness after the fact.  Eastern medicine restores the body’s  balance and self-healing capability.

So I took 1,200 hours of acupuncture training to get certified and passed the acupuncture exam by Dr. Amauro.

Acupuncture has been successful for many patients, including one who suffered from TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) and tinnitus.  Western treatment and prescription medication were not successful.

Through a treatment of 9 sessions, I needled the patient’s trigeminal nerve for 25 minutes.  For the first time in 15 years, the patient felt no pain.
